ELLENSBURG - The Ellensburg and Monroe girls high school track and field teams dominated this past Saturday's Jewett Invitational.
The Lady Bulldogs won their own meet, collecting an impressive 210 points. Monroe was second with 153 and Grandview was third with 50. Moses Lake followed in fourth with 38 points. Eisenhower, Wahluke, West Valley and Lakeside rounded out the field.
Grandview Coach Jared Lind said his girls competed well at Saturday's meet, particularly his 4x400-meter relay team of Brittnee Sanchez, Kara Stanton Tonhya Wysong and Kealey Johnston. The group finished second with a clocking of 4:20.84 behind Ellensburg, which had a winning time of 4:17.38. Lind said his 4x400 squad took six seconds off its time to record a season best.
Saturday's meet marked the first time in several weeks that Sanchez had competed. Lind said she was nursing some injuries over the last few weeks that kept her from competing.
Sanchez ran a consistent 1,600-meter race, placing second with a time of 5:57.78. Sanchez was just behind Monroe's Lyndy Davis, who won with a clocking of 5:55.01.
Johnston nabbed a second place finish in the 400-meter race with a time of 1:03.89. Ann Noyes of Moses Lake won the 400 with a clocking of 1:02.52. Johnston's other second place finish was in the triple jump, with an effort of 32-7. Kayla Standish of Ellensburg won the triple jump, leaping 35-9-1/2.
Stanton had a fourth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.92. Standish won the event with a clocking of 15.45. Stanton was also fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.98. Brittany Gates of Monroe had the winning time in the 300 with a clocking of 49.04.
Wysong took fourth place honors in the long jump, clearing 14-4. Robyn Robblee of Ellensburg won with a mark of 15-1-1/2.
Chelsea Jones of Grandview tossed 97-3 to place fourth in the discus. Devon Cresse of Ellensburg took top honors in the discus with a mark of 117-8. Jones also placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 95-8. Devon Cresse of Ellensburg won the javelin with a mark of 126-10.
Jones took eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.8 seconds. Sharolette Hill of Monroe had the winning time of 27.14.
The Lady Greyhounds will be competing at the Sub-district meet in Othello this weekend.
