There are several discrepancies in yesterday's story about Mabton Principal Fabian Castilleja filing a civil suit against the Mabton School District, as noted by Mabton School Board Chairman Manuel Guzman.

• Wednesday's story relates that Castilleja's contract is expected to not be renewed by the school board at its May 23 meeting. "There's no way I can legally speak as to what is going to happen, until it happens at a board meeting," Guzman said this morning (Thursday).

• Wednesday's story credits Guzman with saying that similar situations involving Castilleja have occurred in three or four other school districts in which he has worked. This morning (Thursday), Guzman said he told the Daily Sun News reporter that there have been allegations of similar situations, but that he never said those allegations have been documented.

• Wednesday's story implies that all school districts use search firms when hiring a principal. This morning (Thursday), Guzman said when making the statement that other districts use those firms, he wasn't referring to other school districts in the Yakima Valley, but was speaking in general about those school districts that do opt for that service.

• Wednesday's story quotes Guzman as saying that he thinks Castilleja tried to hide some things during the hiring process. "What I actually told (the reporter)," Guzman said this morning (Thursday), " that when people ask us questions on this matter and I can't comment on them, they think we're trying to hide something."
