I-82 accident blamed on sleepy semi-truck driver
It took nearly five hours for clean-up crews to remove a
load of spilled sawdust, as well as the semi-truck that was hauling it, on
I-82, just west of Sunnyside near milepost 64.5, last Friday morning.
Washington State Patrol troopers report that Donald W.
Linder, 51, of Yakima was eastbound on I-82 at about 3 a.m. last Friday.
Linder, said troopers, fell asleep while driving his 1997 Mack tractor and
trailer. The semi-truck drifted into the median, and after Linder
over-corrected, the rig flipped onto its side, blocking both eastbound lanes.
The trailer was loaded with sawdust and most of it spilled onto the roadway.
The WSP notes that the I-82 eastbound lanes were reopened at
about 8 a.m.
Linder was treated for minor injuries at the scene of the
plans to host Memorial Day service Sunday
GRANDVIEW - The Grandview Ministerial Association is
inviting Lower Valley residents to attend a special "Memorial Day Service
of Remembrance and Hope" this coming Sunday, May 29, at the Grandview
Church of the Nazarene.
Church leaders say the 6 p.m. service will be a unique
opportunity for the community to come together to pay honor and respect to
military veterans and military personnel currently serving in the armed forces.
As part of the service, the ministerial group wants to honor
those currently serving in the military by projecting a picture of them during
the service. Those with photographs of a loved one or friend who is now in the military
are asked to bring the photo to the office of the Church of Nazarene in
Grandview (500 N. Elm St.) by this Wednesday, May 25. All photographs will be
returned the night of the service.
