Castros, Carrasco lead Safari to top tourney finish

Tournament MVP Fidel Castro Sr. and all-star selections Fidel Castro Jr. and Neto Carrasco led Sunnyside's Safari Restaurant team to the top finish in the recreation division of the third annual Aztlan Sportswear Summer Kickoff Softball Tournament.

The men's slo-pitch tourney was staged at Sunnyside's SunnyView Park this past weekend, May 21-22.

Safari Restaurant posted a 4-1 mark in the eight-team tourney. Some Team, based in the Tri-Cities, was the recreation division runners-up. All-star selections off the second place squad included Jason Nelson and Donnie Martin.

In the tournament's 'E' division, Fazio's of Tukwila captured top honors with a record of 4-1. The 'E' division MVP was Brian Pawlus of Fazio's. All-star selections off the winning team included Brant Fazio and Quinly Williams.

White Swan's Elk Creek Tribe, with all-star selections David Beavert and John Dorelas, claimed 'E' division runner-up honors.

Also named to the tournament all-star team were two players off the Shorty's Bar & Chill team-Bob Sarmiento Jr. and Andy Carrizales.
