U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell said yesterday (Oct. 31) she will take a wait and see attitude on President George Bush's selection of Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr. to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court.
"The coming weeks and months will be critical as we learn more about the nominee," said Cantwell. "I will wait for the hearing process in the U.S. Senate before making my decision.
"Of course," she added, "it is vital that any lifetime appointee to the highest court in the nation possess the breadth of experience, character and wisdom necessary to review the most significant, complex and far-reaching legal questions of our time.
Alito serves in the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
