Commissioners approve regional stormwater deal
YAKIMA — A regional effort to obtain funds for stormwater
planning was approved Tuesday by Yakima County commissioners.
The regional stormwater management planning group includes
the county, Sunnyside, Union Gap, Moxee and the city of Yakima.
Sunnyside's city council approved its participation in the
plan last week. The cooperative effort is intended to generate $75,000 in state
money to each of the participants to address stormwater needs.
"It just makes sense," commissioner Jesse Palacios
said of the regional plan. "The state likes to see a single plan instead
of five different ones."
County signs contract with Goodwill Industries
YAKIMA — County commissioners on Tuesday approved a two-year
agreement with Goodwill Industries totalling $170,256. The contract is a fee
for services provided by Goodwill for the developmentally disabled.
Irrigation franchise approved
YAKIMA — A non-exclusive irrigation franchise for Sunnyside
resident Stephen Winfree and the Upland Water Users Association became official
Tuesday when county commissioners signed the franchise agreement.
The franchise permits placing irrigation pipes under, over
or beside the intersection of Swan Road and Riverside Avenue.
The franchise is non-exclusive, which means others are
eligible to apply for irrigation systems in the same area.
