Free bike helmets to be distributed Saturday

Thanks to a $4,977.50 grant from Toppenish's Legend's Casino, Sunnyside's Promise, in conjunction with other Sunnyside kid-friendly agencies, will sponsor a Sunnyside Bicycle Rodeo and Helmet Give-A-Way Saturday, Nov. 5, at Sunnyside's Chief Kamiakin School.

Children will be given opportunities to test their bike riding skills during the two-hour safety event. In addition, those attending the bike rodeo will also be fitted for new, free bicycle safety helmets.

The rodeo will be held from 10 a.m. until noon (12:00 p.m.).

According to Lisa Fairbairn, director of Sunnyside's Promise, thanks to the Legend's grant, Sunnyside's Promise was able to purchase 615 youth bicycle helmets to help keep Sunnyside children safe while riding their bikes.

Sunnyside's Promise is partnering with Sunnyside Police Department and its Explorers Post and the Aaron Saunders Foundation to provide Saturday's helmet give-a-way event.
