YAKIMA - Hoping to keep going in the Columbia B League soccer playoffs, the Sunnyside Christian High School team traveled to Riverside to play the Crusaders for the fourth time this year.
And, like those other three games, this one was no different as the Knights lost 3-0 Friday afternoon.
On a wet and soggy field, the teams battled it out for 80 minutes until the Crusaders walked off the field victorious.
Alex Schilperoort scored first for Riverside Christian in the 29th minute.
"It was a fast-break that got past the sweeper," Sunnyside Coach Russ Smies said. "He got one on one with our keeper and put it past Bosma."
The knights kept pressure on Riverside and had about five good shots on goal. "Between Burgers and Van de Graaf, we had quite a few attempts," Smies said.
In the 37th minute of the half, Ryan VanBeek padded Riverside's lead with a well place header into the net.
"That's just tough to defend," Smies said. 'Whenever the ball is in front of the goal, he's a big threat."
In the second half the Knights had a couple of opportunities to get back into the game but just missed them.
There was some good shots on goal but they went high and wide, Smies said.
Trevor Pynch turned another fast break into a knock-out punch to make it 3-0 and seal the Knights' fate in the 70th minute.
"They did well," Smies said of his team. "Riverside is just a strong team. I think we had potential to do well. Our seniors went out and played hard."
Riverside went on to beat Moses Lake on Saturday and advanced to the regional playoffs.
