Aleyda S. Medrano, 46, of Mabton passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Dec. 22, 1958 to Natividad and Lucinda (Gonzalez) Saenz of Edinburg, Texas. Aleyda received her early education in Texas and Grandview. Her family settled in Grandview during her sophomore year of school, where she graduated with the Class of 1977. On Nov. 5, 1977, she married John Medrano of Mabton at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Together they made their home in Mabton. Aleyda worked as an administrative assistant for the Sunnyside Housing Authority and for the past 15 years had been an administrative assistant for the Sunnyside School District. She was known to children of all ages as "Ski Club Lady".
Aleyda was a member of the Guadalupana's and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
She enjoyed country drives, working in her flower beds, early morning shopping, trips and vacations to Lincoln City. Aleyda loved spending time with her husband, children and cherished her grandchildren. Many fun hours were also spent with her canine companion, Pebbles.
She is survived by her loving husband, John "Bobby" Medrano; her daughter, Lindsay M. Medrano; her son, Johnny Medrano and wife, Luz; and her grandchildren, Joziah J. Sandoval, Eliza A. Sandoval and Johnny R. Medrano III. She is also survived by her mother, Lucinda Saenz; her siblings, Nati (Jane) Saenz, Daniel (Frances) Saenz, Rudy (Margie) Saenz, Ricky Saenz, (Antonio) Dora Beraza, (Alfonso) Sylvia Ramos, (Gonzalo) Lucy Sauceda, Malena Saenz, Elida Garcia and Letica Saenz.
She was preceded in death by her father, Natividad Saenz; one sister, Leticita Saenz; her father-in-law, Froilan Medrano; her aunt-in-law, Virginia Medrano; and her nieces, Cynthia Lynn Saenz, Lorena Beraza and Angelita Saenz.
Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, from noon until 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Grandview. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
