Lions International to settle in Mabton

MABTON - There will be an organizational meeting to form the Mabton Lions Club on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at noon. The meeting will be held at the Silver Dollar Inn in Mabton.

Lions International is a service organization that helps the less fortunate.

This meeting is the second one held so far and will be focused on trying to get the required amount of community members involved.

"We're very close to being formed," Bill Shepherd said. "We have to have 20 members before we can do the paperwork to get the club going."

One of the services Lions International performs is trying to get everybody to see. Lions Clubs pay for eye examinations and glasses at no cost for people who really need it.

Shepherd said that 100 percent of the money Lions International gets from the community, 100 percent of that goes back into the community.

A third meeting is planned for the following Wednesday on Nov. 30 and Shepherd hopes club officers will be elected then.
