Lydia Lang Zimmerman, 95, a long-time Grandview resident, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, at Landmark Care Center in Yakima.
Lydia was born March 14, 1910 to Jacob J. and Friedaricka (Dietrich) Lang in New Leipzig, N.D. She also received her education in New Leipzig. In January 1937 she married Fred Rott, he passed away April 30, 1963. Lydia was appointed postal clerk at the local post office in November 1949, she later retired in June 1966. On July 30, 1966 she married Reinie Zimmerman in Bismarck, N.D. They came to Grandview to spend their honeymoon and decided to make Grandview their home. Lydia and Reinie started working for Snokist, and were later employed full-time at Twin City Foods. Reinie passed away on Dec. 25, 1985.
Lydia was a member of Grandview Senior Center volunteer groups, Grand Slam Band, Armchair singers group, Eagles and the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three sisters, Edna Mottner of Ashville N.C., Dori C. Krohn of Portland, Ore. and Laura Jones and husband, Gordon, of Grandview; one brother, Leroy Lang of San Marcus, Calif.; her dear friend, Stan Freeman; many wonderful nieces and nephews; several cousins; and super good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husbands; sisters, Elsie and Ida; and four brothers, Herb, Fred, Oscar and Johnny.
Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, from 2 until 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Sunnyside Cemetery. Those wishing to honor her memory may contribute to the Grandview Methodist Church. Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, is in charge of arrangements.
