TOPPENISH - Ho hum, another 3-0 sweep recorded by the Grandview High School volleyball team.
Tuesday evening, the Lady Greyhound spikers defeated Toppenish on the Wildcats' home floor-25-8, 25-10, 25-7. It was the sixth straight 3-0 sweep Grandview has posted over its CWAC opponents this season.
Grandview (6-0, 14-2) has now played all six of its CWAC South division foes. The team will begin the second half of league play tomorrow night (Thursday) at Connell (4-2).
With last night's match comprised of just three games, and with Coach John LaFever substituting freely, none of the Lady Greyhound players posted stupendous numbers. However, six of the Grandview girls did stand out from their peers.
At the net, sophomores Kealey Johnston and Christine Penwell led the Grandview attack. Johnston blasted shot after unreturnable shot over the midcourt barrier, recording a match high nine kills. Penwell chipped in with eight kills and recorded one stuff on a Toppenish kill attempt.
Setter Chante Bottineau, a junior, was able to tally 18 assists for Grandview...thanks to her pin-point sets. Bottineau, too, registered two aces from among her 10 service points.
The Lady Greyhounds' top server last night was sophomore Katie Veloz. She strung together 16 service points, three of which were aces. Teammate Jessica Gonzalez, another sophomore, also excelled from the service line, recording 14 service points and a team high six aces from the service line.
Also posting some pretty decent numbers for Grandview was yet another sophomore, Raissa Licano. She tallied eight service points, half of which were aces, and added four blocks, three kills and one dig.
The lone senior on the Grandview team, Tonhya Wysong, chipped in with some impressive defensive play last night, as well. With numerous scrambling dives, she recorded 10 digs in all.
