Methamphetamine workshop set

for late October

Due to the graphic nature of the topic, children are not advised to attend the Tuesday, Oct. 25, Sunnyside workshop that will deal with methamphetamine use.

The Sunnyside School District's Parent Information and Resource Center will host the 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. meeting, which is open to all adults. Besides free handouts and brochures, workshop presenters will discuss in detail how meth is the powdery new plague of the new generation, how a person's brain reacts when meth is being used, the effects of meth use and six tips for dealing with "tweakers."

The Oct. 25 meeting is being funded in part by a discretionary grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

S’side hospital seeks winter clothing for kids

Employees from Sunnyside Community Hospital and the hospital's three family practice medical clinics are joining to gather winter clothing for children.

The clothing drive was launched internally by the hospital's employee activity committee, but committee members are inviting the public to make clothing dontions, as well.

"We are asking for new or gently worn coats, hats, gloves, mittens and other winter apparel," said Sandra Linde, the hospital's special projects coordinator.

Linde said the items can be taken to the main lobby of the hospital or to the clinics during normal business hours.
