G'view girls prevent Eagles from soaring

CONNELL - The Grandview High School volleyball team (7-0, 15-2) dealt the Connell Eagles their third CWAC loss of the season last night.

For the Lady Greyhounds, Thursday night's league victory was their seventh 3-0 sweep in conference play this season. Grandview won by scores of 25-12, 25-15, 25-15.

Coach John LaFever said he received a balanced effort from his players Thursday evening.

The top numbers posted at the net were the team high 14 kills recorded by sophomore Christine Penwell, along with freshman Kinzi Poteet's eight kills and four blocks, and the team high five blocks of sophomore Raissa Licano.

The team's primary setter, junior Chante Bottineau, registered 34 assists against Connell. She also posted eight service points for the 'Hounds. Also from the service line, sophomore Jessica Gonzalez had a team high four aces, and sophomore Kealey Johnston added two aces against the Eagles, who slipped to 4-3 in CWAC play with last night's loss.

Grandview's defensive digs leaders were senior Tonhya Wysong and Johnston with 31 and 18, respectively.

In looking ahead, the Lady 'Hounds host Naches next Tuesday night and are scheduled to travel to Ki-Be on Thursday.

"Ki-Be will be the big match next week," said LaFever. "They only have one league loss, which was to us."
