UNION GAP - In a four-game tug of war, Sunnyside Christian High School's volleyball team was defeated at LaSalle on Thursday evening.
"We played really well but we just fell short," observed SCHS Coach Andrea Dobson.
The Lady Knights won the first game 25-17, then struggled as host LaSalle won the second and third games by identical scores of 25-14.
That set the stage for a game four thriller, which the Lightning won 25-23 to take the match.
"We let down in our communication for this match," Dobson noted. "The girls did a great job coming back in the fourth game, but we just couldn't get those last two points."
Chelsey Jones sparked the SCHS attack with 12 kills, 18 digs and two blocks to go with an impressive eight aces.
Tori Van Wingerden led the Lady Knights with 30 kills while Jessica Schrotenboer and Andrea Schutt both hustled for 12 digs each.
Courtney Rice contributed 16 digs to go with 12 kills and a team-high 10 aces. "Courtney had a good game," Dobson said. "She put on a great defensive effort with her serving and hitting."
SCHS (4-3, 12-6) returns to the court next Tuesday to play at Mabton.
