Mabton sweeps Trout Lake/Glenwood

GLENWOOD - The Mabton volleyball team got its second league victory last night, beating Trout Lake/Glenwood in straight sets.

The first set was hard fought as the Vikings got off to a slow start, struggling again at the service line.

Mabton finally got it going and took a small lead but Trout Lake/Glenwood fought back to pull even.

"After that it was back and forth in the first set," Mabton Coach Olivia Mendoza said.

The Vikings finally hung on for a 26-24 first set win.

The second set was better as Mabton led the whole way through.

"We never had a big lead in the second set, we just had the lead," said Mendoza. The Vikings took the set 25-22.

In the third set Mabton started communicating a lot more and it showed as they won 25-18.

Mayra Diaz, who had a strong offensive game, had four kills for the Vikings and Alida Mendoza had nine.

"Alida's defense was absolutely beautiful," Chambers said.

"We seem to improve everytime we play," she added.

Josie Chase had 15 assists for the game and Adriana Cardenas added seven.

"Trout Lake/Glenwood has some tough players and we were able to block them and stop their strong hitters," said Mendoza.

Mabton (2-4) plays Bickleton at home on Monday.
