LaVergne Inez Christianson, 92, of Sunnyside passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, at Sun Terrace in Sunnyside.

LaVergne was born in Denver, Colo. on Dec. 6, 1912. She lived there until her parents moved to California in 1920. Her first two years of school were in Long Beach, Calif. and then they moved to Lynwood, Calif. She attended through the eighth grade, then attended Compton Union High School, where she graduated in 1930.

In 1931 she started to work in Los Angeles at the Broadway department store in the credit office, where she worked until she met her husband, Neil, on a blind date and they were married in 1935. That union lasted 70 years. She also worked at the Broadway as extra help for several years after they were married. Neil enlisted in the Navy in World War II in 1942 and, while he was away for three years, LaVergne worked at the Bank of America. In 1944 she gave birth to their daughter, Nici. The Christiansons moved to Grandview in 1991 to be near their family.

She is survived by her daughter, Nici Whaley and husband, Rick Himmelberger and their four children, Holly, Martin, Heather and Laurel; and 10 great-granddaughters.

Private family memorial services were held and Inurnment at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside was in charge of arrangements.
