Anonymous tip ends in arrest

Sunnyside police officers responding to an anonymous call at 9:51 a.m., Oct. 7, reporting a burglary in progress, apprehended two of four people who were running from a residence in the 400 block of S. 13th Street.

Gilberto A. Gomez, 20, and a 14-year-old juvenile were arrested. The charges that were requested for Gomez was two counts of first degree burglary. Charges requested for the juvenile were one count of first degree burglary and one count of residential burglary.

A window in a side door of the house had been broken.

At 1:49 p.m. officers responded to a report of another burglary in the 1300 block of E. Gregory Avenue, just one block from the first burglary. The owner reported a cellular phone had been taken. Police determined that the phone was of the same make and model as one that had been found in Gomez's possession.

Following a reading of their rights, both suspects, said police, admitted to breaking into both residences.

The identities of the two people who ran from the first burglary are known to Sunnyside police, who say the investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected.
