RICHLAND - The Sunnyside junior varsity football team lost a tough one Monday, 14-12 at Hanford.
The Grizzlies opened with a 6-0 lead on a scoring drive, which culminate with a pass from Adrian Cantu to James Baysinger.
Sunnyside's defense stepped up to force a pair of early fumbles. The Grizzlies took advantage of the second fumble, converting it into six points and a 12-0 lead.
Hanford responded with a score of its own to make it a 12-6 halftime lead for Sunnyside.
The hosts then ran the ball to open the second half with a 70-yard, six-minute scoring drive.
"Hanford's offense really stepped it up in the second half and took it right at us," noted Coach Tyler Miller. "Our offense could not find its rythum in the second half."
The Grizzly offense found its second wind late in the second half and drove to the the Hanford-10 before being stopped by a goal line stand.
"The kids played with a lot of heart and determination," said Miller. "They were disappointed with the loss, but we will come back next week against Wapato at home.
