Mabton beats Wapato in three sets

MABTON - The Mabton volleyball team beat Wapato in a non-league match Thursday night at home, winning 25-19, 25-23, 27-25.

"I'm very pleased," Mabton Coach Olivia Mendoza said. "They looked very confident and played well."

It was a pretty close match all the way through as Mabton played at home for the last time before getting ready to embark on a three-game road trip, all league games, starting next week.

In last the set Mabton had to come from behind with the score 22-17 in Wapato's favor.

"My girls just stayed tough and pulled it out," Mendoza said.

Mendoza said it was awesome her team could play that well against a 3A team.

Elida Mendoza led the Vikings with 11 kills and two blocks. Daniela Aguilar added six kills and Josie Chase had 13 assists.
