What a great opportunity we have before us in electing Karen
Veloz to the Grandview School Board.
I have had the pleasure of getting to know Karen personally,
in addition to volunteering with her on a number of activities in our community
over the past several years. Her community involvement, dedication to teaching
and first-hand experience and understanding of the education system make her
the best qualified candidate to fill this position.
Karen will be a wonderful addition to a group of dedicated,
involved and caring leaders of our community. Please join me in support of
Karen Veloz for Grandview School Board Position #2.

have dirty hands
Just a note in response to Mr. Vlieger's outright attack on
me, AGAIN, in last Friday's Daily Sun News (10-14-05):
A wise person once said, "Those that sling mud are the
only ones who have their hands dirty."
God bless you, Don. I'm praying for you.

Well, my sign has been taken from my yard - you can tell
elections are coming up.
I support Helen Darr, as she thinks for herself and does not
go along with the crowd to be popular. Helen considers Grandview and wants the
best that the town can afford.
She also tries to consider the taxes involved and does not
daydream of the aqua center and pool and the monies involved. Let's fix a new
pool in the same location with a parking lot.
I think we should vote Darr for mayor, as she considers all
the people and not just the popular few.
I would also like my sign back to show I support her.

Vote for Rohde
I have know Mary Rita Rohde for many years, both personally
and professionally, and can assure you that she will do an excellent job as a
school board member. Mary Rita Rohde has many years of experience as an
educator and administrator. She knows the educational needs of students.
Her knowledge of the problems that students face in getting
a post secondary education prompted her to help create Heritage College, which
we now know as Heritage University, to address some of these needs.
Mary Rita Rohde also has helped students in the K-12
educational system by tutoring students and getting more parents involved in
the education of their children. Our children in Sunnyside deserve Mary Rita
Rohde on the school board.
Please make the right decision for our students and VOTE for
Sister Mary Rita Rohde for Sunnyside School Board Position #2.

Gant, Kilian endorsement
Once again it is time for citizens of Sunnyside to vote for
members of the city council and our local school board. We are fortunate to
have outstanding, dedicated people willing to serve.
I have known Bill Gant for more than 50 years and I have
worked with him as an educator for 25 years. I believe he will do what he has
always done when making decisions, he will listen to all sides, gather the best
information and then he will make what he feels is the best decision for the
Joanne Kilian is a caring, devoted community member. She has
served on the Sunnyside School Board for more than 25 years. I had the pleasure
of working with her during most of those years. She has always been dedicated
to doing what is best for the students in our schools. I believe she will
continue to serve with the students' best interests as her guide.
First, I urge you to vote. Second, I urge you to join me and
vote for Bill Gant and Joanne Kilian for the positions they are seeking.

Riel would serve constituents well
Our county fire districts play a key role in providing fire
protection and emergency services for rural residents in the county. It's
important that we elect commissioners who can bring a wide range of experiences
to the job.
It's been my pleasure to know Kevin Riel and I believe he is
the type of person that will serve us well as Yakima County Fire Protection
District #5 commissioner, Position #1.
Kevin Riel has been a volunteer firefighter and EMT for 19
years with Fire District #5. He has served as captain of Station #3 and hasn't
missed a fire drill or a class the past 19 years. He leads by example, a
principle that will serve him well as commissioner.
I've had the pleasure to observe Kevin's leadership skills
in action as he has served on various agricultural industry and banking boards.
He is honest, forthright and has a strong sense of integrity in everything he
does. He would serve us well as a fire district commissioner and I hope you
join me in voting for him in November.

a joint effort
I was given credit in the newpaper for all of the planning
and preparation of the VFW dinner, but it was truly a joint effort. All members
of the Sunnyside City Council present at the dinner last Friday contributed to
the effort and supplied many of the components to the success of the evening,
from preparing the side dishes, serving the dinner and the after-event
I would like to thank Mayor Ed Prilucik, Councilman Mike
Farmer, Councilman Bruce Ricks, Linda Farmer, Jeannie Ricks and Loran Hancock.
I would like to also thank Lynn Call, who volunteered her day to make sure the
event was a success.
Most of all, as Veteran's Day approaches, each and every one
of us should take the time to thank those who bravely give of themselves for
our freedoms. It was our honor to take a day to serve those who have served us.

This letter is being written on behalf of Bill Gant as
regards his candidacy for Sunnyside City Council. Bill Gant and his wife
Juanita have been close friends of ours, my wife and I, the former Ardythe
Shaw, for nearly 60 years. Bill and I grew up together in Outlook, having
attended school there together, Sunnyside High School and Western State
College. I know Bill Gant well.
When Bill and I were recently together he indicated his
interest in serving Sunnyside as a member of its city council. It occurs to me
this is a noble cause. Little pay, little adulation and a lot of second
guessing. Yet, here's a man that cares a great deal about the community in
which he lives and is willing to give time and talent to ensure its well being.
Bill and wife Juanita have lived in Sunnyside their entire lives with the
exception of the time spent away at college.
Bill's resume has been well documented at this point as
regards his professional orientation. He is an educator, in addition to being a
successful administrator. Administration requires mediator skills and it seems
like that is the job of an effective council member. An ability to view
different points of view, weigh them carefully and come down on the side that
promotes Sunnyside and its citizens. Bill will do so. He cares about Sunnyside.
To be honest, I know little of the politics of Sunnyside.
Even so, I do know Bill Gant and his interest in promoting the community and
making it the very best it can be. I believe the citizens of Sunnyside will be
well served with Bill as a member of the city council.
