YAKIMA - The Mabton girls volleyball team traveled to Yakima Thursday night, hoping to build momentum with a win before they start District play. Instead they lost three out of four games to Riverside Christian in their final regular season match.
Riverside Christian beat up on the Lady Vikes to post a 25-10, 25-18, 22-25, 25-19 victory.
"It wasn't the best performance but we were able to play with them with the exception of the first game," Mabton Coach Olivia Mendoza said.
The Lady Vikes started out slow and made a lot of errors in the first game. It took them until the third game to start playing well.
"We were able to communicate better and things started clicking," said Mendoza. "When the girls communicate with each other, they play well."
Mabton's strongest player, Alida Mendoza, had another good night with 14 kills, 4 aces and 4 blocks.
"She's a good athlete, a good student and an all around good kid," Mendoza said.
Myra Diaz also had a good night. She finished with 9 kills and 3 aces.
Daniela Aguilar had 6 kills, 2 aces and 1 block while Josie Chase added 4 kills, 4 aces and 16 assists to her season stats.
The Lady Vikes finished their season with a 6-5 league record and will play a yet to determined team next week at the District Tournament in Goldendale.
