God's Medical Health Program

by Pastor Paul Guay

Elected officials still struggle to devise a viable health program. Our national health costs would sure go down if we embraced God's Medical Health Program laid out by Solomon back in Proverbs 14:30-A tranquil heart is life to the body, but passion is rottenness to the bones.

Tranquility, eh? Just what does THAT look like? Well, Moses gave evidence of it when some Israelites informed him there were others in the Israelite camp who were prophesying. Even Joshua urged Moses to restrain them, but Moses said, Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord's people were prophets, that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them." (Numbers 11:29)!

One with such heart tranquility will not even rejoice when his enemy falls (Proverbs 24:17). On the contrary he will feed him and give him drink (Proverbs 25:21). The tranquil heart enjoys the absence of selfishness and rejoices in another's happiness and honor. No wonder he is so healthy.

Unbridled emotion or passion, on the other side of the verse, is wounded by another's prosperity (Genesis 26:12-14; 1 Samuel 18:6-9). The injury or ruin of his enemy would give pleasure, but it turns sick when hearing of his praises (Esther 6:6, 12) or a painful despair (Psalm 112:10). David himself testifies of the deleterious effects of unconfessed sin in Psalms 32:3-4-When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long. 4 For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. He yearned for the gladness he formerly enjoyed in the days of his heart tranquility. Make me to hear joy and gladness, let the bones which You have broken rejoice (Psalms 51:8).

How then can one get on this Heavenly Health Plan? The tranquil heart belongs to those who trust the Lord Jesus Christ. Believe on Him and you are enrolled (Acts 16:31). Life to your body will begin to be visible in the growth of the loving attributes listed in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. They will not all come at once or perhaps even quickly, but God begins to produce them almost at once. Then there are the lasting fruits listed in Galatians 5:22-26.

When you spot these things in your life you will know the Prince of Peace is doing a work in your heart to bring tranquility and life to your body and you have been enrolled in God's Heavenly Medical Health Program.
