Sunnyside's girls soccer team came close to snapping a tie with Ellensburg in the league standings, but just missed in a 2-1 home loss to Prosser Saturday.
The visiting Mustangs grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute, which held up for a 1-0 halftime lead.
Sunnyside's Yanet Candido, playing her final home match for the Grizzlies, netted the equalizer in the 46th minute.
The tie lasted all of 12 minutes as Prosser answered in the 58th to score what proved to be the winning goal.
"The girls played well on Saturday, but were slow to get going the morning after homecoming," noted Coach Kathy Jolliff. "Prosser maybe outplayed us in the first half, but we played them even in the second half."
Keeper Amanda Williams had eight saves to keep Sunnyside close defensively. Besides Candido, the contest was also the last home match for Lady Grizzly seniors Megan Downing, Gloria Galvan, Jessica Espinoza, Sandra Valles and Cassie Jolliff.
Sunnyside (3-8, 4-11) closes out the regular season Tuesday at West Valley, a Mid-Valley League powerhouse.
If the Lady Grizzlies lose they will play Ellensburg in a loser-out tie-breaker this Thursday, with the winner advancing to post-season play.
