OUTLOOK - Over the long holiday weekend, the bear that had been roaming through Outlook area corn fields was shot and killed by an area hunter.
Washington State Fish and Wildlife Department Sgt. Morgan Grant said a black bear was reported as being successfully hunted in the area surrounding Outlook.
"Is it the exact bear, that's hard to say," Grant said as to whether the bear killed was the same bear the department had been fielding sighting reports since late last week.
Last Thursday, the Department of Fish and Wildlife learned that a black bear had been spotted in the corn fields surrounding Outlook and had been monitoring the animal since.
"We were just monitoring the location of it," Grant said.
He added that the Department of Fish and Wildlife didn't solicit hunters to go out and hunt the animal. Instead, he said hunters got wind of the bear in the area and successfully hunted the animal down.
"We didn't feel there was any concern for people's safety," Grant said of the bear.
He added that the bear was legally killed, explaining that it is bear season and the hunter had a proper hunting license.
