WHITE PASS - Two cyclists from the Lower Yakima Valley were injured this past Saturday in an accident that occurred approximately two miles east of White Pass.
Sustaining the worst of the injuries was 40-year-old Bakary Kone of Sunnyside. He was transported by ambulance to Yakima Regional Medical Center. Suffering only minor injuries was Gerardo Manuel Bazaldua, 39, of Mabton. He did not require hospitalization.
According to the Washington State Patrol, both Kone and Bazaldua were eastbound on SR-12 about two miles east of White Pass when the accident occurred, at about 3:35 p.m. WSP troopers say Kone, on a 1992 Suzuki motorcycle, failed to negotiate a sharp curve. The motorcycle left the roadway and struck a guardrail, ejecting Kone in the process. Bazaldua, trailing Kone on a 2000 Yamaha motorcycle, struck the Suzuki, as well as the fallen rider.
The cause of the accident, say WSP troopers, was inattention.
Bazaldua's Yamaha sustained approximately $1,000 worth of damages. Kone's motorcycle was totaled.
