It took 24 Yakima County Fire District Five firefighters nearly an hour to control a fire that engulfed an Emerald Road home, just outside of Sunnyside on Thursday night.
According to Yakima County Fire District Five officials, the fire at 8781 Emerald Rd. was reported just before 8 p.m. Thursday night at the home of Doug Porter. Four Fire District Five stations responded to the blaze and were able to get the fire under control by 8:43 p.m.
The report filed by Pat Mason with Yakima County Fire District Five states that when firefighters arrived at the scene they found flames attacking the two-story home inside the rear of the home, in an upstairs room, and around the home's deck and exterior. The report states that the fire is believed to have started in the hot tub room of the house.
It is estimated that the fire caused $80,000 worth of damage to the home, including damage to the house, deck and the home's contents.
According to Yakima County Fire District Five, the fire is still under investigation, although the investigation will be forwarded to the Yakima County Fire Protection Bureau.
