Flag football

sign-ups end

next Monday

The Sunnyside Recreation Department is taking sign-ups for its youth flag football program through next Monday, Sept. 12.

The program is open to youngsters in the third through sixth grades.

Registration costs are $20 for children residing within the city limits, $26 for those who live in the rural areas of Sunnyside. The sign-up fee includes the cost of a team t-shirt.

Recreation department officials report that volunteer coaches are still needed for this fall's games.

Volleyball program open

The Sunnyside Recreation Department's youth volleyball program registration deadline has been extended to Monday, Sept. 12.

Boys and girls in the third through sixth grades are eligible to participate. The registration fee is $20 for local youngsters, $26 for those who reside outside the city limits.

eBay 101 class offered locally

Don't throw it away. Sell it on eBay.

The Sunnyside Recreation Department is offering an evening class Monday, Sept. 26, teaching people how to turn their attic and garage treasures into cash from the comfort of their own home. Class participants will learn how to set up a buyer and seller eBay auction listing, how to take and upload photographs and how to accept credit card payments on-line.

Instructor Kevin Boyd, certified by eBay as an education training specialist, will also show tips and strategies for creating and positioning a successful auction listing that receives the highes and most bids.

The Sept. 26 class will be held at the Sunnyside Community Center, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Class fees are set at $30. Registration is underway now at the Sunnyside Recreation Department office, located at the Sunnyside Community Center at South Hill Park.

Adult volleyball teams sought

A total of 18 adult coed volleyball teams can be accommodated in the Sunnyside Recreation Department's fall league.

Team registration fees are set at $100. All league matches will be played on Wednesday evenings from mid-September to mid-December.

Team registration forms are available at the local recreation office and on the city's website at: ci.sunnyside.wa.us.

‘School’s Out

Fun & Fitness’ program taking sign-ups now

The Sunnyside Recreation Department, Sunnyside Community Hospital and the Sunnyside School District are co-sponsoring the new "School's Out Fun & Fitness Program.

The program will include a healthy lunch, lessons on preparing healthy snacks, relays, games, building physical skills and activities that improve hand-eye coordination. Ten youngsters in each grade level of school, including high school, will be accepted into the program.

The program dates are scheduled for Oct. 14; Nov. 3, 4 and 23; Dec. 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29 and 30; Jan. 2, 3 and 13; Feb. 17; March 17, 30 and 31; April 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7; and May 5.

Sign-ups are underway now at the Sunnyside Recreation office. The cost to participate is $2 per youngster.

Basketball skills program starts

in late September

A basketball skills program for Sunnyside boys and girls 14 to 18 years of age will get underway Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Sponsored by the Sunnyside Recreation Department, the program will focus on shooting and conditioning. The 18-night camp will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sunnyside Community Center.

Pre-registration is required. The cost to participate is $15. Sign-ups are taking place now at the Sunnyside Recreation office.
