Line dance exercise classes offered in S’side

Instructor Sandi Buchmann will begin teaching line dance excercise classes at the Sunnyside Community Center on Monday, Sept. 12.

Buchmann said the classes, seven in all, are a means to gain a great aerobic workout while learning to line dance. The class focus, she said, will be on learning the basic line dance steps,

The cost to attend the classes, which will be held for seven consecutive Mondays, is $30 for Sunnyside residents, $37.50 for all others. A 5:30 to 6:30 session will be held for beginners, with an hour long session to follow for intermediate and advanced dancers.

Pre-registration is required through the Sunnyside Recreation Department.

L&I proposes

3.8 percent raise in insurance rates

The Department of Labor and Industries is proposing increasing hourly workers compensation insurance rates by an average of 3.8 percent in 2006.

If adopted, say L&I officials, the higher premiums would cover anticipated increases in the cost of medical and wage replacement benefits paid to workers injured on the job.

One of five hearings around the state to take public comment on the proposed increase is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Red Lion Hotel Yakima Center. The hearing will begin at 10 a.m. and is open to the public.
