BICKLETON - Despite some strong serves from Bickleton High School senior Kristin Slater, the Lady Pirates varsity volleyball team was unable to pull off a win last Thursday against West Valley's freshman team.
The West Valley freshman squad gave the Lady Pirates their second loss of the season by scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-8.
Still, Bickleton Coach Tom Whitmore had good things to say about his Lady Pirates, who are evenly divided between seniors and eighth grade players.
"We had a great match," Whitmore said of the Sept. 8 match.
"We played much better than in our Tuesday match against Lyle," he said. "The girls had a lot of enthusiasm and never gave up hope," Whitmore said.
In addition to some great serves by Slater, Whitmore said eighth grader Morgan McBride is showing a lot of promise as a setter.
The Lady Pirates will face Trout Lake Tuesday night at home before traveling to Sunnyside on Thursday to meet the Grizzlies "C" squad.
