YAKIMA - Sunnyside capped off a frustrating day at the SunDome volleyball tournament Saturday by whipping Wapato 25-16, 25-15.
"We started off really slow that morning and I think the girls were frustrated they lost the first game of the day 24-26," said Coach Angel Carrizales.
That first game loss was to Eastside Catholic. The Lady Grizzlies followed it with a close 18-25 loss in the two-game match.
In other results Saturday, Sunnyside lost 22-25, 18-25 to Lynden and 14-25, 25-27 to South Whidbey.
Sitting at 0-3 for the day, the Lady Grizzlies pounced on Wapato and never let up.
"The girls were so frustrated by that time they decided to kick it in high gear," Carrizales said of her team's victory.
The coach praised the play of Alexis Ramos and said the tournament helped in firming up the starting six for Sunnyside.
"By that final game the girls learned how to relax and play," Carrizales said.
Sunnyside travels to West Valley this coming Thursday to play Juneau, Ala.
