YAKIMA - The Sunnyside High School girls swim team fielded four swimmers this past Saturday in a meet at Lions Pool in Yakima against Pullman.
The Lady Grizzlies lost 122-28 to Pullman. Sunnyside Coach Scott Southard said part of the reason for the lopsided score was that only four of the seven Sunnyside swimmers were competing.
Katie Knee had the lone win for the Lady Grizzlies, taking top honors in the 100 back with a time of 1:11.10.
"She looked strong," said Southard. "That will be a good event for her this year."
Knee easily out distanced Pullman's J. Cullen, who took runner-up honors with a time of 1:12.29.
Rachelle Durfey had a strong showing in the 50 freestyle, taking second place honors with a time of 27.85. Pullman's Kylie Shaw won the event with a clocking of 27.44. Durfey also took second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:52.29. A. Bergley of Pullman won the event with a clocking of 6:52.17.
"Her 50 was good and she stepped up and swam the 500, which isn't one of her events," said Southard. "I'm proud of the effort she put into that race-she swam a smart race and had a really good finishing kick at the end."
Knee also had a third place showing in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:15.91. Teammate Megan Razey took fourth place honors with a time of 1:36.44. A. Herr won the butterfly for Pullman with a time of 1:13.66.
Razey was also fourth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 3:11.48. J. Cullen of Pullman took top honors in the IM with a clocking of 2:35.16.
Hannah Glockner of Sunnyside grabbed a fourth place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:14.66. K. Shaw of Pullman won the event with a solid time of 59.83. Glockner also finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:28.62. K. Sutherland of Pullman took top honors in the breaststroke with a time of 1:23.45.
The 200 medley relay team of Knee, Durfey, Glockner and Razey took runner-up honors with a time of 2:22.36. Pullman had a winning time in the relay of 2:09.08.
The Lady Grizzlies will be swimming this Saturday in Kennewick.
