Just days before the opening of the annual Sunnyside Sunshine Days celebration, the executive director of the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce and Sunnyside Economic Development Association, Rado Harrington, has resigned.
Tuesday, Harrington met with SEDA Board President Jon Smiley and Board President-elect Jeff Barrom at noon to turn in his resignation.
"We shook hands and agreed to make no public comments," said Barrom.
"We will now move forward to determine the direction SEDA will take in the future," added Smiley.
Harrington's resignation came as a surprise to Chamber Board President Ruben Carrera.
"We never solicited his resignation," said Carrera.
He noted that Harrington's sudden departure will in no way impact this weekend's three-day community celebration. Harrington has been working with the Sunshine Days Committee to organize the 2005 event, Carrera explained.
"Everything is in place for the opening of Sunshine Days," Carrera said.
He said Sunshine Days Committee Chair Dorothy Leonard and Pam Turner, the Chamber's promotions director, "have matters well in hand.
"The celebration will go as scheduled," Carrera said.
Calls to Harrington, who was hired by SEDA less than 10 months ago, went unreturned this morning.
