PROSSER - A cool, but sunny morning, no wind and a 2.9 mile course were the ingredients for the 18:57 finish handed in by Grandview High School's Britnee Sanchez at the Prosser Invitational this past Saturday.
Sanchez' closest challenger was Megan Dart of Hanford High School, who finished with a time of 19:16.18.
Even though it was not her best time, Sanchez, a junior, sailed along Prosser's Fiker Stadium course leading the pack most of the way, according to her coach, Jim Pillers.
"Last week Sanchez was a little under the weather, but she rested up and was in good shape this weekend," said Pillers.
Pillers said nearly 200 runners participated in the multi-school invite, which saw his Greyhound boy runners finishing well back in the pack. Jose Mendez finished 26th in the cross country race with a time 17:16.10, while Marco Diaz finished in 45th place, but no time was recorded for him. Also competing last Saturday were Greyhounds Shay Seimour and Spencer Blanshan.
The Greyhounds will travel to Quincy tomorrow (Tuesday) to run in the Gorge Invitational.
