Gonzalo A. Amador, 80, a long-time Sunnyside resident, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at Sunnyside Community Hospital.

Gonzalo was born on Nov. 12, 1924 in Poza Rica, Vera Cruz, Mexico, the son of Ignacio and Marie Isabella (Arroyo) Amador. On March 4, 1949 he married Rebecca Rodriguez in Brownsville, Texas. They moved to Washington in 1950 and started their family.

Gonzalo worked as a laborer and then on the construction of several dams throughout Washington and Oregon. He retired in 1986. His free time was spent fishing with his sons and grandchildren. He enjoyed working around the house, playing with his grandchildren and family barbecues.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rebecca Amador; six sons, Gonzalo Amador Jr., Robert Amador and wife, Virginia, Reynaldo Amador, Steve Amador and wife, Leticia, Rick Amador and wife, Leti and

Michael Amador; two daughters, Diane Little and husband, Edward and Gracie Amador; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Beatrice Amador and Berta Amador.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Francisco, Lionel, Artemio, Ilario and Jose Manuel Amador; and three sisters, Viviana, Raquel and Esperanza, all from Vera Cruz, Mexico.

Viewing and visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, from noon until 8 p.m. with an evening service at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside.
