A third game lead wasn't enough Saturday as the Sunnyside volleyball team was swept at home 25-11, 25-14, 25-22 in a Mid-Valley League loss to West Valley.
"We came out from the beginning with that intensity to win every point," said Coach Angel Carrizales. "That was one of our major goals going into the game."
The desire was there, but the Rams - 3A state-tourney qualifiers last year - held the upper hand.
Sunnyside's only glimpse at victory came in the third game when the Lady Grizzlies built a six-point lead.
West Valley responded with consecutive rallies to tie the third stanza and go on to take the game and match.
Christy Linde had seven kills and 13 digs to lead Sunnyside. Claire Schilperoort added 10 kills and five digs. Carrizales also praised her team's serving as the Lady Grizzlies recorded five aces against the likely state-bound Rams.
Sunnyside (0-2, 0-3) travels to Ellensburg tomorrow, Tuesday, for a Mid-Valley League match.
