With little fanfare, the Port of Sunnyside commissioners gained their first look at the 2006 operating budget this past Monday night.
According to Port of Sunnyside Manager Amber Hansen, commissioners will be examining the document in the coming weeks and look more in-depth into the budget during special work study sessions Nov. 14-16. Commissioners have to have the 2006 operating budget approved and submitted to Yakima County officials by Nov. 20.
Very little discussion on the budget took place at Monday night's meeting.
Port officials are anticipating a $3.8 million operating budget in 2006 with another $2.6 million in cash available to cover unforeseen expenses. Port commissioners are also anticipating implementing a minimal 1 percent increase in the property tax levy for 2006. The 1 percent increase is anticipate to generate $443,741 for Port coffers.
