ELLENSBURG - It was a case of too little, too late, as the Lady Grizzly volleyball team rebounded from an 0-2 deficit Tuesday before losing 3-2 at Ellensburg.
After a sluggish start and 25-18, 25-12 losses to the host Bulldogs, Sunnyside rallied for 27-25, 25-22 victories to set up the deciding fifth game. Ellensburg prevailed in the finale, 15-11, to take the Mid-Valley League win.
"The third and fourth games were wonderful and the fifth game was a battle," said Coach Angel Carrizales. "I'm proud of the way the girls played."
Christy Linde had 16 kills and 23 digs to lead the Lady Grizzlies. Eleanor Garcia hustled for 20 digs and Alexis Ramos had 17 digs. Ramos also sparked a solid Sunnyside serving effort with a perfect 19-of-19 behind the service line. Claire Schilperoort was also 13-of-13 serving to go with nine kills and three blocks.
Sami Jo Sartin paced the attack with 28 assists.
The goal for Sunnyside (0-3, 0-4) is to take the momentum from games three and four into Thursday's match at Prosser, noted Carrizales.
"I think we've seen what kind of level of volleyball we can play," Carrizales added. "The girls are holding themselves to a high standard and I think we're going to surprise some people in the league."
