Granger man sustains injuries in 3-vehicle mishap

UNION GAP - 53-year-old Rudy G. Guzman of Granger sustained injuries yesterday afternoon as the result of a three-vehicle accident at SR-97 and Lateral A near Union Gap.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Guzman was stopped at a traffic light at the SR-97 and Lateral A intersection in a 1996 Honda Accord. He was rear-ended by a 1995 GMC truck. The driver of the GMC fled the scene of the accident on foot through a nearby orchard.

The collision forced Guzman's four-door sedan into the intersection, which ended up striking the left side of a 1995 Ford semi-truck and trailer.

Both, Guzman and a passenger in his Honda Accord, 49-year-old Steve Hernandez of Arizona, were injured at the scene and had to be transported by ambulance to Yakima Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the semi-truck, 40-year-old Melchor Villanueva of Yakima, avoided injuries.

Guzman's vehicle was totaled in the collision. The GMC truck sustained about $2,000 worth of damages, while the semi-truck was able to be driven from the scene.
