Van Wingerden shoots 2nd low amateur round at PGA pro-am

KENNEWICK - Mike Van Wingerden's sizzling 2005 season on the area's golf links continues.

With course record-like performances already in the books from earlier this season, the Sunnyside golfer isn't letting up. At this past Monday's pro-am tournament at Kennewick's Canyon Lakes Golf Course, sponsored by the Central Washington chapter of the PGA, Van Wingerden tied for the second low amateur round.

He carded a 2-over-par 74. The low amateur round was claimed by Lakeview Golf & Country Club's Jack Molitor, who shot a 2-under 70.

A total of 155 professional and amatuer golfers competed in Monday's pro-am. The low professional round was a 5-under 67, nabbed by Von Smith of Bear Mt. Ranch.

In addition to Van Wingerden cashing at the tournament, one of his Black Rock Creek Golf Course teammates-Nate Bridges-also brought home winnings. Bridges, competing in amateur division No. 2, tied for second low score with a 10-over 82. The low score recorded from amateur division No. 2 on Monday was a 7-over-par 79, shot by Cindi Smith of Bear Mt. Ranch.
