WAPATO - It was a clean sweep for the Sunnyside volleyball team, which won 25-16, 25-15, 25-16 at Wapato on Thursday night.
"We served extremely well," noted Lady Grizzly Coach Angel Carrizales. "We had a combined 26 aces for the match."
The win, Sunnyside's first of the season, was never in doubt. "We started off the match strong and there was never a time that we didn't have momentum," Carrizales said.
Wapato hustled to make things interesting in the second game, rallying from a 21-9 deficit to make it 21-16 before the Lady Grizzlies shut the door.
"They are a scrappy team but they had difficulties with serve receiving," Carrizales noted.
Senior captain Christy Linde recorded another double-double for Sunnyside with 12 kills and 11 digs to go along with one block.
Claire Schilperoort helped lead the Lady Grizzly attack with seven kills, 10 digs and four aces. Speaking of aces, Eleanor Garcia served a team-high eight aces for the match, followed by Alexis Ramos who contributed six aces to go with nine kills and 15 digs.
Kerri Urrutia hustled for 10 digs and Sami Jo Sartin dished out 35 assists.
Sunnyside (1-6, 1-7) has the weekend off before traveling to Quincy next Tuesday.
