Flores, Martinez State wrestling champs

CHENEY - Bobby Flores and Rafael Martinez proved they're among the best of the best this past Saturday at the annual Jason Crawford Memorial Wrestling Tournament.

Flores and Martinez, members of the Mabton Lil Vikings, won State titles in their respective age division weight classes. Flores took top honors in the 7/8-year-old 65-lb. division. Martinez was the 9/10-year-old 122-lb. champ.

The Jason Crawford Memorial Wrestling Tournament, held each year in Cheney, serves as the State tourney for the 14&under wrestlers.

All told, the Mabton Lil Vikings sent 10 grapplers to Cheney last Saturday. Seven of them brought home placing awards.

In addition to the State titles secured by Flores and Martinez, teammates Desiree Zavala, Desany Guerrero and Vesente Mireles nailed down runner-up finishes. Zavala competed in the 7/8-year-old 59-lb. division, Guerrero in the 7/8-year-old 77-lb. weight class and Mireles in the 9/10-year-old 66-lb. grouping.

Placing third for the Mabton Lil Vikings were Britnee Guerrero (5/6-year-olds 52 lbs.) and Emilio Mireles (11/12-year-olds 98 lbs.).
