GRANGER - The Granger Booster Club will be hosting its fourth annual barbecue and auction this Sunday, April 23, at Granger High School, located at 315 Mentzer Avenue, from noon to 3 p.m.
The barbecue will start at noon and the auction will begin at 1 p.m.
Items to be auctioned will include gift baskets, gift cards, fishing and hunting trips, items from major stores from Yakima to Prosser, Seahawk tickets, artwork, crafts and much more.
"There has been a lot of support from the businesses in Sunnyside and we really appreciate that," said Gail Dodd, one of the organizers of the event.
All proceeds from the benefit will go to the booster club's scholarship fund and to the youth in the Granger community.
The Granger Athletic Booster Club began the auction as a way to raise money to help support the Granger athletic programs.
In the past, the money the club has raised has financed a motivational speaker, helped with team travel expenses to district, regional and state events, awarded scholarships to Granger seniors, hosted sports banquets and provided funds to purchase needed equipment.
This year the booster club will be purchasing portable bleachers, batting cages and crushed cinder for the baseball and fastpitch infields. The club will also be awarding four scholarships in April.
The Granger Athletic Booster Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the youth in the community. Club members believe sports offer students a way to be involved in a positive way. The club thinks sports can provide a positive experience and can build confidence. Granger Athletes learn to be responsible, they must keep up their grades, they learn the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship.
The club is still looking for donations to auction off. Monetary gifts will also be accepted.
Anyone wishing to donate any items or money can call 854-1371 or leave a message with Dodd at 837-6444.
