WEST VALLEY - A warm sunny day at the West Valley track and field meet yesterday (Tuesday) was great for Bickleton's jumpers and throwers, but harder on distance runners.
"Eric Hess broke out big time, PRing by over 10 feet in the discus to win it," said Coach Darrel Lang.
Hess took first with a throw of 131-10. He also placed second in the shot put.
Tyler Jensen took a third place finish with 34-10.5 in the triple jump.
Junior Hernandez ran his 3,200m race in 11:15.2, coming in right behind the leader. He also placed fourth in the 1,600m with a personal best of 5:10.2.
Cody Loomis gave the Pirates a second place finish in the high jump, clearing 5-6.
For the Lady Pirates, Danielle Raschko came through with a first place finish in the 3,200m in a time of 14:46.
"Alejandra Molina also had a big improvement in the shot put and Tricia McBride also improved her mark in that event," said Lang.
Molina placed fifth in the shot put with her personal best of 29-2. Although McBride didn't place, she put the shot 19-10.5 for a personal best.
"Junior and Danielle both improved on their 1,600m times, but were slowed by the heat in the 3,200m, but it was a good meet for them to double up and prepare for league and district," Lang noted.
"For a first year vaulter, Patrick Maeder is improving almost every day, but yesterday he took a huge jump up, improving his PR by a foot and had some good attempts at 10 feet. James Rasmussen had a PR in the javelin, which helped him to place sixth," said Lang.
Bickleton's next meet is tomorrow at Mabton.
