LYLE - Mabton senior Alida Mendoza threw the first no-hitter of her career as the Lady Vikings romped to an 18-0 victory over Lyle yesterday in the first game of a doubleheader.
Mabton also took the second game, 17-6.
"The girls did an excellent job, everything's clicking," said Coach Jesus Sustaita. "Alida was hitting the outside corner and the girls backed her up in the field."
Leading Mabton's hit parade in the opener was Mendoza, who went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles. Jessica Orozco was also 3-for-4.
Mabton's game two starter, Josie Chase, had a few more control problems, but still cruised to the 17-6 win over Lyle.
Mendoza again led the Lady Vikes at the plate, delivering a grand slam in the seventh inning to cap off her big day.
Mabton, who travels to Granger for a non-league game tomorrow (Thursday), improved to 6-4 in league play and 9-8 overall.
