MABTON - The Mabton City Council approved a resolution authorizing Spink Engineering to update Mabton's StreetWise Program and provide a map of street improvements.
Spink Engineering will rate the pavement condition on all of Mabton's streets. They will determine the appropriate repairs or improvements needed for each city block. They will prepare a cost estimate for each repair or improvement for each city block and also prepare a map of the city with the cost of repairs or improvements.
The total cost of the project will be $3,000 and should take about three weeks to complete.
Mabton City Administrator Ildia Jackson told the council there was no money in the budget for this project but some money could be taken from the street decorations fund.
This fund has $6,000 available and a motion was made and passed to take the $3,000 needed for the project out of this fund.
"The purpose of this project is so we will know what kind of repairs are needed and how much they will cost," Jackson said. "It will give us the knowledge to pursue viable options in the future to fund these projects."
The council also decided to let Spink Engineering draw up a small plan detailing the connection between the new well #5 and well #4.
Spink Engineering will draw up plans and call three contractors for bids. This will allow the connection to be completed in three or four weeks and will not disrupt water production from well #4 when the water line is extended between the two wells.
There will be no additional cost to the city for this work done by Spink Engineering as the work has already been included in the scope of work for Spink Engineering.
Also at Tuesday night's meeting, the council announced it will hold a public hearing at the next council meeting on Tuesday, May 9, to discuss the revised Parental Responsibility Ordinance.
New definitions have been added and some times have changed. The council would like to hear from the public before the new ordinance is approved.
