S'side netters split at Selah

SELAH - The Sunnyside tennis teams came up with a split in Mid-Valley League action yesterday at Selah.

The Grizzly boys prevailed 4-1, led by Danny Plesha's 6-2, 6-1 No. 1 singles victory over Josh Burwell.

In second singles, Sunnyside's Tyler Thompson won 6-3, 6-3 over Thomas Gomez.

Selah's only win in boys play came when the league's best doubles team, Cody Alliston and Chad Womack, defeated Hunter Van deGraaf and Jake Wavrin 6-1. 6-0.

In No. 2 doubles, Mitchell Sanchez and Jesus Alquicira prevailed 6-0, 6-4 over Selah's Greggor Voight and Tyler Carey.

Rounding out boys play was Sunnyside's doubles team of Justin Snyder and Jacob Kresse, who won 6-3, 6-2 over Nicolo Magni and Blake Womack.

Sunnyside's boys improved to 7-1 in league and 8-1 overall.

In girls play, the Lady Grizzlies lost 3-2.

Jerika Martinez and Jessica Gudino sparked Sunnyside to a 2-0 lead with wins in No. 1 and 2 singles play.

Martinez prevailed 6-3. 6-3 over Jennylynn Aganda and Gudino won 6-2, 6-3 over Caitlynn Headley.

Host Selah swept doubles play to take the Mid-Valley League match.

Nicole Smith and Jenna Sutton defeated Sunnyside's Helen Shuttleworth and Regina Mendez 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 doubles.

Selahs' Carly Call and Katie Ensign followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Capri Miles and Hannah Paulakis.

Mary Labissoniere and Shelby Welch closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Sunnyside's Addy Hernandez and Gayle Hansen.

The Sunnyside girls are now 2-6 in league play and 3-6 overall.

The Sunnyside tennis teams are home today (Wednesday) to play Wapato.
