Fruits of garden club's effort on sale this weekend

An annual plant sale that could not only fill your garden but also just might entice one to join the Sunnyside Garden Club will be held this weekend.

The sale of rhubarb and raspberry plants, herbs, trees, shrubs, fancy-leaved geraniums and a variety of perennials and annuals will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 300 North Avenue.

"We'll have stepping stones, hanging baskets, bird houses, all the cabbage type plants, tomatoes and some peppers," said Elaine Tucker, club president.

"These annual sales have been held since the '50s, I think. That's how I became a member 17 years ago; I went to a plant sale," said Tucker. "It's a good time to get to know the club."

All proceeds from the sale will be used to help beautify the community. Past projects have included planting rosebushes at the Veterans Memorial on Ninth Street and planting easy-care bedding plants at the Sunnyside Library.

Anyone who would like more information about the club or the sale may phone Elaine Tucker at 837-9333.
