GRANDVIEW - The Grandview fastpitch team hosted Ellensburg Thursday afternoon and got a lesson inwhat fastpitch is all about.
The Lady Hounds got blown out, 21-0, in a non-league game.
"They had a great pitcher, and a sharp defense," Grandview Assistant Coach Mark Ware said of Ellensburg. "They're a very good team."
The game was basically over in the first inning when Ellensburg scored 10 runs. The mercy rule would not take effect until after the fifth inning and the 'Hounds gave up 11 more runs while waiting for the game to end.
"In the first inning we had two outs and if we could have made one catch, we hold them to two runs," Ware said. The catch wasn't made and Ellensburg started knocking the ball around.
"They were hitting the ball well," Ware said of the Ellensburg hitters. "They were making solid contact and burning our outfielders."
One bright spot on the day, Ware said, was a hit Rocky Rodriguez got. "She hit a laser beam straight up the middle," he said. "It was our best hit of the day."
Grandview (2-6, 2-12) will play Toppenish Tuesday, May 2, at 4 p.m., in Toppenish.
