Sunnyside soccer gets back on track

YAKIMA - After suffering a loss to Hanford earlier this week, the Sunnyside High School soccer team got back on track, beating East Valley 3-2 in a non-league match.

"We've been playing a lot of games lately," Sunnyside Coach Juan Pineda said. "Five games in the last eight days. I put in some JV players and they did very well. Especially Julio Pallares. He scored two goals for us."

Sunnyside scored quickly, getting a goal in the third minute of the first half. Alex Aguilar headed in the ball off a crossing pass from Jesus Solis. Solis is also a JV player.

East Valley tied the score at one in the eighth minute.

Daniel Ramos passed a ball through several defenders to connect with Pallares. Pallares placed the ball on the side of the goal to give Sunnyside a 2-1 lead.

Pallares made it 3-1 on a similar play, this time taking a pass from Jesus Solis to net the ball.

East Valley scored one goal in the second half to make it a 3-2 game and that's how it ended.

"I moved five JV players up for an entire half," Pineda said. "They exceeded my expectations, scoring three goals. Pallares did great. He impressed the team and I am planning on using him more on varsity."

Sunnyside (6-4, 10-4) will travel to Selah Saturday, April 29, for a game at noon.
